Writing Meeting, Wed April 16th, 1pm to 3pm, 5452 HBLL
Alright, everyone, our last and final writing meeting will be on Wednesday, April 16th, from 1pm to 3pm in room 5452 of the HBLL. That's the afternoon of the first reading day. Hopefully by that time most of my school projects will be over and I'll be moderately sane. The deadline for submissions is this Sunday, the 13th. Send your submissions to quarkwritinggroup@gmail.com.
Good luck with the semester endgame! If you can make it to this last meeting, it would be great to see you!
UPDATE: Room 5452, in case you don't know, is on the north end of the 5th floor of the library. Go up the elevators nearest to the sampler section on the main floor, get out on the fifth floor, take a right, and room 5452 will be the first study room to the right of the big windows.
Writing Contest: Arthur C. Clarke
Alright everyone, here is the writing contest of this semester! In honor of Arthur C. Clarke, who passed away on Wednesday the 19th, the prompt for this contest is the following quote:
"Oh my god--it's full of stars!"
Anything inspired by that quote is acceptable for the contest. Like the last time, the judging will be done by the quark reading group.
The prize? A $20 gift certificate to the BYU bookstore!!!
But everyone who participates will get a copy of The Leading Edge! That's right! Just for participating!
Deadline for submissions is noon on Friday, April 4th. The word limit is 3,000 words. Email your submissions to quarkwritinggroup@gmail.com.
And have fun writing!
The Creeping Green--We have a winner!
And the winner is...Drek! Yay!
Thanks to all who participated! When I get a chance, I will post a word file with all of the stories on the thread in the forum.

Art Contest: Writing Group Flier Art
With a new semester coming up in a couple of months, the writing group could use some new fliers to help spread the word and bring in some new members. In order to generate art for the fliers, we will be holding an art contest. The rules are:
1) The art needs to be small (or large) enough to reasonably fit on an 11" by 8.5" piece of paper under the landscape orientation.
2) The art needs to be in black and white: you can submit a colored version if you would like, but we need to be able to make copies of this art from a standard copying machine.
3) The art can be either fantasy or science fiction themed, but should have some recognizable sci fi / fantasy element.
4) The art should have the words "Quark" or "Quark Writing Group" somewhere in the image.
5) There needs to be enough empty space on the page so that I can type in information about meeting times and contact information (DO NOT include this information in the artwork itself!).
6) It just generally needs to be awesome and show how much love you have for the writing group and/or Quark in general.
The deadline for the contest is December 8th by midnight: hopefully, this will give you enough time to start thinking about it and come up with something really good! We'll accept the best three submissions, with prizes as follows:
3rd place: one issue of The Leading Edge.
2nd place: two issues of The Leading Edge.
1st place: two issues of The Leading Edge and a $20 gift certificate to the BYU Bookstore.
Email your submissions or questions to me at onelowerlight@gmail.com.
Good luck and have fun!
